A performance of Bush's 24 Preludes Op.84 (1977) takes place on Friday 29th June 2001 at 6pm at Highgate School, North Road, London N6.
Peter Jacobs (piano) will perform the work, as he did at the Trust's Centenary Concert on 1st November 2000. He has also recorded them on the C.D, Alan Bush Piano Music.
See Peter Jacobs' article "Recording Alan Bush's Piano Music in 1986" published on this site.
Peter Jacobs studied the Preludes with Bush and writes that: "although he encouraged freedom and individuality, he was very specific about the details and tempo of each piece (and) gave me an exact metronome marking for each Prelude, and of the 24 numbers, 23 have different (and very detailed) Italian marks of expression. The Preludes (are) ..... a magnificent set of pieces, vast in scope and pianistic resourcefulness."
Everyone is welcome to attend the performance which will take place in the Main Hall of the School, which Bush attended as a pupil from 1911-17.
