Four Seafarers' Songs for Baritone with Piano Accompaniment, Op. 57 (1961)

1. The Ship in Distress
2. Ratcliffe Highway
3. The Greenland Whale Fishery
4. Jack the Jolly Tar

The words and tunes of these songs are taken from the Penguin Book of English Folk-Songs. This work is a concert-room version of the songs, a genre of music disapproved of by many folklorists, but which nevertheless survives in the musical world of many countries.
