The Birmingham Clarion Singers are celebrating their 65th anniversary of their founding in 1940 with a concert at All Saints Church, Kings Heath, Birmingham on 19 November 2005 at 7.30 p.m.
The Birmingham Clarion Singers will include in their performance Professor Wilfrid Mellers' Prometheus Bound, with words from George Thomson's translation from Aeschylus, Charles Parker's Radio Ballad, Singing the Fishing, Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Alan Bush's Africa is My Name, Op. 85 for Mezzo-Soprano Solo, Mixed Chorus and Piano and his arrangement of Bach's Ricercar in six voices.
The Birmingham Clarion Singers had a close association with Alan Bush from the time it was founded until his death in 1995. It continues to have a close association with the Alan Bush Music Trust and Professor Wilfrid Mellers is a Patron of the Alan Bush Music Trust.
