There was a performance of Corentyne Kwe-Kwe: Toccata for Piano, Op. 75 (1972) by a young Russian pianist, Tamara Smolyar, in the Marama Hall, University of Otago on 3 December 2010 in Dunedin, New Zealand. She gave a very exciting performance and Tamara said later that several of the audience came up to her afterwards and told her she should perform it again. Tamara said she would like to keep the work in her repertoire.
Tamara Smolyar was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and graduated from the Kiev State conservatorium of Music with High Honours. She performed nationwide in the former USSR in solo, concerto and chamber music recitals as well as on radio and television. She arrived in Australia in 1990, and is now Senior Lecturer in Music Performance and Co-Ordinator of Piano and Keyboard at the School of Music, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
